Tell Nancy Pelosi: Start impeachment proceedings now! Trump is NOT above the law.
As part of MoveOn's National Day of Action, we will gather at the southeast corner of Broadway and Randolph Way to say that it's time to start impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives.
We will be giving public readings of impeachment calls from Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Al Green (D-TX), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and a discussion of the range of abuses and crimes against our communities and Constitution that warrant an immediate impeachment inquiry. (Tlaib and Green are co-sponsors of a House resolution to begin an impeachment inquiry.)
We will also be displaying signs for passing motorists and pedestrians. Make your own at home, or come early. We'll be there from 9:30 with sign-making supplies. Suggested messaging includes:
TRUMP IS NOT ABOVE THE LAW
NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW
This president has consistently tried to hold himself above the law by thwarting constitutional and legal limits to his power. He must be stopped. Impeachment is the constitutional remedy. We say: If not now, when?
When a president defies the law and consistently undermines constitutional checks on his power, the constitutionally mandated remedy is impeachment. It's time for members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, to stop jockeying for political power when the situation demands that they place loyalty to the nation and its Constitution above loyalty to party. It's time for them to act like patriots.
Donald Trump's abuses of our communities and country demand action from Congress, which has the responsibility and authority to hold Trump accountable. The next crucial step is an inquiry into whether to draft articles of impeachment.
This event will be a visible, family-friendly, public gathering at which we will inform our communities about the process of impeachment and Trump's abuses, then contact our Members of congress in support of impeachment.
We will also be intentionally amplifying the voices of people who are feeling most acutely the violence that Donald Trump is doing to our country and communities—including communities of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ community members, and women—supporting groups, whose members are on the front lines of Trump’s attacks.
Note: A core principle shared by supporting organizations is a commitment to nonviolent, peaceful actions. All actions that are sponsored or organized on this page are intended to be nonviolent and peaceful. We expect all participants to act lawfully at all times and to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those that disagree with our values.
